1:39.1 | public square in the early part of the 20th century. Then they entered the Scopes trial full of them in vigor. |
1:46.5 | They won the trial, but lost in the court of public opinion. And after that, they were embarrassed. |
1:51.9 | And they withdrew and just sort of focused on building their own institutions, the left behind trying |
1:57.2 | to influence culture. That has been the story. And I'm sure it's true. Some people would rather they would stay out of the public square. |
2:03.6 | But I was arguing that the opposite, that they actually never did withdraw, not fully. |
2:08.6 | Well, you know, the story, the myth, we'll call it that, in a way in terms of the myth being sort of a public meaning that people take as generally true. |
