If you were around in the 1960s and 70s, you probably remember this TV commercial.

It's so hard to imagine now, driving up to a gas station and men coming out to fill up your tank

with gas and clean your windshield and check your oil.

It's even harder to imagine gas being 30 cents a gallon back then.

But it happened then, that level of trust of service,

of attention, and care.

30 cent gas and full service stations may be a thing of the past, but trust, service, love,

and attention to care need not be.

This meditation from the 4th chapter of 1st John will help you learn to recognize moments of

service, opportunities to care, and possibilities to show love through divine encounters with God.

So to begin your meditation, find a place to be comfortable, still, alone and quiet.

We will be together for about 15 minutes.

Start by taking a moment to arrange yourself to be aware of God in this moment.

Sit comfortably and quiet and alone if you can.

Let's begin to relax your eyes and to a soft stare.

Become aware of God, the Spirit, and His Son in and around you.

Be aware of them, to encounter them.

So now this opening time of silent prayer is yours.
