Here's acclaimed fly fishing author and lifelong fly fishing

enthusiast Tom Rosenbauer. This is Paul Fiercen. I'm going to give Tom Rosenbauer a day off today and read a story that I wrote for Gray's Sporting Journal.

I've written a number of stories for them and this was one of my favorites.

It's it's somewhat about my my childhood and passing this

passing the fishing on to my son and I call this story full circle.

I remember the heat, not the weighted air that drove gallows to old men to shade,

but the sweet heat of shirtless barefoot boys in the South Georgia sun, though the two are one in the same.

Grandma Moon didn't go fishing unless it was hot, the day's sunrise,

finding the mule is already ensconced under the nearest pasture oak.

She settled for a two-acre straw hat, an old cotton dress with apron,

and wore out orthopedic shoes the kind all southern Spencer teachers wore,

except theirs didn't have the holes on them.

She wore this near every day, I remember, as her brand of fishing didn't require much

in the way of technical apparel.

Lula Virginia Henrietta Bell, Wolf Moon, was a meat fisherman.

She wouldn't mind the turn fisherman since Grandma was no feminist.

There isn't a feminist in the world could survive her day much less her life.

She cooked, cleaned, buried a child, fought forest fires, killed Rattlers, and guided her family through the depression,

paying college tuition with barrels of soup mix she made.

That's what you did it then.
