Summary

Collier Landry and Brenda Fisher discuss with special guest retired police Captain Dave Messmore, Mansfield Police Department, the manhunt currently underway for fugitive Lester Eubanks in Los Angeles, CA. Eubanks has been on the run after confessing and being incarcerated for the brutal rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Mansfield, Ohio, almost 50 years ago.  Eubanks, lauded as a model prisoner by the Ohio Dept. of Corrections, escaped after being granted leave to go Christmas shopping in December 1973 and hasn't been seen since. Dave Messmore sought the involvement of America's Most Wanted and John Walsh, which re-aired the episode on March 22, 2021, and brought multiple tips leading US Marshalls to Los Angeles, CA. -Collier and Dave also discuss the murder of Collier's mother, Noreen, in which Dave served as the lead detective on the case and was the ONLY ONE who believed 11-year-old Collier that his mother was murdered by his father, Dr. John F. Boyle, Jr. -Collier and Dave share a heart-to-heart about the murder of Melinda Kay Davis in Shelby, Ohio, who was laid to rest on March 26, 2021. I'm Collierlandry. And I'm Brenda Fisher. And this is moving past murder. And today we are talking to

0:07.6

probably an individual, I would say, is my personal hero. He's someone who is very near and dear to my heart

0:13.4

for a lot of reasons. But most importantly, because when nobody believed me that my mother was

0:20.1

dead, this gentleman did.

0:21.8

As of two days ago, a gentleman by the name of Lester Eubanks, who has been on the run for 47 years

0:29.1

since fleeing prison, is now loose in Los Angeles, California. Probably literally down the street.

0:36.1

I wonder if he's working at a Starbucks

0:37.7

that I went to this morning. Right? Makes you wonder. So without any further ado, I would like to

0:44.3

welcome to moving past murder, David Messmore.

0:57.0

Okay. The The Thank you for joining us. I realize that it's 10.30 your time, so you're up and awake,

1:22.2

but we're three hours behind. All of us are up early. Yes. We're worm getters here at maybe

1:27.4

past murder, as I'd like to say. Well, Dave, we have a bunch of things that we can talk about. There's a couple of things that we've been following here. Obviously, my story and how you intersect with that and the work that we were able to do to bring justice to my father. Then you and I have briefly touched upon this recent and very tragic case,

1:45.7

the murder of Melinda Davis from Shelby, Ohio. But more importantly than all of that,

1:50.6

we have a case that has come full circle, would you say? Yes, absolutely. That is the case of

1:57.4

Lester Eubanks. Now, Dave, I remember very specifically when I came back and we were doing a murder in Mansfield in Mansfield at the Renaissance Theater. And you and I, I think we went and played golf and we were sitting at your house. And then you started telling me this story that you had never told about Lester. So why don't you give us a little background? Because if I'm not mistaken, you are the original arresting officer in this case? No, not exactly. I grew up on North Longbury Street down in

2:25.3

Mansfield and it was, my parents had a small grocery store. She would come in the victim in this

2:33.7

case with her mother and her sister. She

2:36.1

was just a little girl at the time because that was in the late 50s. Then we bought a bigger store,

2:41.3

so I didn't see a lot of them after that. In 1965, I believe it was, apparently Lester Eubanks

2:48.2

was living not far from that area where she lived, which is only about two blocks from our grocery store.

2:54.7

And he kind of sneaked up on her at night when she was going down the street to the laundromat, assaulted her, raped her, and shot her.

3:04.2

This is a little 14-year-old girl.
