Hello kids, this is Risk, the show where people tell true stories they never thought they

dare to share.

I'm Kevin Allyson, and every Thursday we release these special episodes where we look

back at content from our earlier years.

Sometimes single stories, sometimes whole episodes, keep in mind that years ago people might

have awarded things differently than they would today.

As always, the title of the whole series, Risk, is itself a content warning.

This week we're looking back at an episode that was first released in January of 2011,

and it does have a couple of examples where we feel like what counts most is that the

storyteller truly meant no harm.

David Krab, who is white, and who does a lot of character work in his career, he does

an impression of a black woman that he used to work with, and for whom he felt a lot of

affection and appreciation.

Michael Herstreet, reflecting on being called a pussy in high school, although today he

might have steered clear of including that word in his account, on account of its misogynistic

associations.

As I've said before, we do edit these things out of old episodes now wherever we can,

but those two examples I just gave are perfect examples of me making the editorial decision

of resisting going too far with re-editing things.

And so, without further ado, here from January of 2011 is the episode called Frontiers.
