This time we go back to Saturday the 6th of November,

1982 and to Gourson Park for a Derby victory

Liverpool fans still sing about today.

The story is narrated by me, John Gibbons, for the

Anfield lap. One man who knows all about the importance of the Mearsyside Derby is Kirby born Phil Thompson.

He graduated from the cop as a boy to end up captaining Liverpool Football Club.

He later worked as a coach and the assistant manager under Joartoule.

The Derby game was the biggest game of the season, always.

It wasn't a Manchester United game for me, as some people wish wish but being a local land the Derby Games was always

massive it was always nervous it was always nerve-wracking it was good rivalry, good bouncer, but massive. It's like all written rules

as Liverpool footballers, which are handed down. It's like somebody who had it's little boot, little red boot

which got passed down of all the rules and regulations with what you have to do when you're

a play and you have to get together and you have to mix and you have to do certain things.

A Derby game was the Derby game and it was massive.

And having the likes to Smitty there to sort of influence me. And I then passed that down as I became more of a regular

than the side and certainly more when you became captain and trying to pass on that

importance of it. One young player being taught about the importance of the Derby was 21-year-old Ian Rush,

although Ian had his own motivations to beat Everton too.
