You're startled awake. What was that noise? Wait, why can't I move? Your body rigid and stiff as though under control of an unseen force. You struggle to try and breathe, but nothing happens. Panic sets in, and that's when you notice a dark figure drift from your open closet, across the room to the foot of your bed.

Now you're in full panic mode. The comfort of your own room shattered. Unable to capture your own breath, your heart races, your eyes strain against the dark of the room as the shadowy figure creeps ever more closely.

Inside your skull, you scream, a scream of primal terror of desperation, but nothing moves

through your throat or out of your mouth.

The shadow closes in, and now it's mere inches from your face.

You feel the sting of tears well in your eyes as you squeeze them tightly closed,

hoping against the odds this is nothing more than a waking nightmare. When suddenly, your lungs

begin to fill with air, your body loosens and relaxes. You're in control again. Your eyes spring open,

and you see what you swear as a shadow fly across your room and into the dark abyss of your closet. Now fully awake, you let out a gentle sob. This has to have been a nightmare, you think, until you hear the closet door click as though someone or something from inside it closed it.

Turn up the lights, my little darklings.

Wrap yourself in your favorite plankies, and for God's sakes, whatever you do, do not fall asleep.
