| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the Sea Hawkers podcast from the podium game day edition, where we take a look back from the press conferences throughout the week and hear from Pete Carroll and some injury updates, here from defensive coordinator Clint Hurt, |
| 0:21.1 | as well as some of the players who we are going to be watching for this week. |
| 0:25.9 | First of all, before we get into this, thank you to the Mariners for erasing an 8-to-1 deficit |
| 0:32.7 | on Saturday. |
| 0:34.0 | For one, those of us who are watching Seahawks and Mariners, we don't have the added |
| 0:38.1 | stress of both games on Sunday, and we don't have to make a choice on which game to watch, |
| 0:43.6 | because these games would have been overlapping. And holy smokes, what a comeback victory |
| 0:49.6 | by the Mariners. But we are here to talk Seahawks. So looking ahead to today's matchup with the Saints, |
| 0:56.6 | let's start off with defensive coordinator Clint Hertz reflections on the defense's performance |
| 1:01.2 | last Sunday against the Lions. |
| 1:03.7 | I would say for two and a half quarters, there's a lot of good things going. |
| 1:07.5 | Starting off with the three and out, which was awesome to see, |
| 1:10.2 | trying to make a big emphasis going in on starting fast. |
| 1:12.8 | And obviously we had the sudden change situation to get down there. |
| 1:15.9 | And obviously the one that was just tough was the explosive after that. |
| 1:19.2 | So you get the fast start, then you give up the big one, which is obviously the big deal right now. |
| 1:24.1 | Giving up, you know, cut back on the explosives and obviously the penalties that we're having. Some of those situations almost become explosives, the penalties that you get particularly in the back end. But for two and a half quarters, I felt there's a lot of things going in the right direction, big improvements, and then, again, gave up an explosive in the run game. I think it was a second down and seven situation. And it felt like an avalanche of things, which is frustrating. |
| 1:45.6 | But obviously for some young guys, it's things to be able to learn that if a bad play happens, |
| 1:49.5 | you got to be able to put it past you and move on to the next play. |
| 1:52.0 | So it doesn't turn into an avalanche of issues and things of that nature. |
| 1:54.7 | So to finish the game better is obviously a big point that we got to continue to get |
| 1:59.6 | across along with a lot of other things. It sounds like we could be seeing more safety Ryan Neal figuring into the Seahawks defensive plans for this game. You know, you'll see him more and more at the safety spot in the dime. Obviously, he's done that for us in the past. We missed a lot of seeing him, and he kind of fell into the shadows because of the injuries he had to deal with in training camp. |
