This is a true story that took place some five years ago on a September night. My companions

on this hunt were my good friend, Clifford Tolbert, and his son Glenn. The dogs were Joe, a grayed blue tick

belonging to Clifford, and red, a grayed red bone belonging to me. On this particular day,

I had dropped by the office where Clifford manages a used car lot, and while batting the breeze,

we decided to take a hunt that night.

We agreed that I would pick him up about 6 p.m., which I did, and when I arrived, he and Glenn were waiting there with their dog and hunting gear.

We had about 65 miles to drive to get to the place where we wanted to hunt.

We arrived at our destination, a farm,

just a mile or so from Sinks Grove, West Virginia, which is in Monroe County. The folks who

owned the farm were relatives of Clifford's, so we spent some time talking and visiting before we

started hunting. Finally, we went back to the pickup and got our dogs and lights and started

hunting around 8.30 p.m. The area we were hunting is beautiful, rolling terrain with large

boundaries of pasture land. There's also quite a lot of woodland and numerous cornfields, making

ideal coon hunting. We had not got far when both dogs struck. And after a short

chase, they treed. After listening to them tree, for a few minutes we went to them. Glenn got to the tree first,
