Hi, my name is Peter Baker.

I'm the freelance writer.

I live in Edinston, Illinois right outside of Chicago and I'm a regular contributor to

the Guardian Monrid.

In 2014, when the city of Seattle, through a public referendum, became the first major

city in America to pass the minimum wage I was very interested and I was interested not

only in the fact that it had happened but in the nature of the debate that sprang up.

Over time, I also became very interested in the ways in which there are arguments to some

extent shared the same underlying logic.

I started reading a lot of history and economic history about where minimum wage laws came

from in the first place and the history of debates over minimum wage laws.
