On August 3, 2009, just before midnight, an OnStar satellite service got a notification of an emergency

from inside a Cadillac escalade that had crashed. The vehicle had plunged off a cliff,

just off Walker Trail, in Severe County, Tennessee. The OnStar service called 911,

and police responded to the scene. They found a bent guardrail. The car was in the

middle of the woods, so it was hard to get down to the crash scene. Deputies had to repel to the bottom

of a 125-foot drop-off. When they got down there, they saw the Black 2007 Cadillac Escalate. Inside the twisted metal record of that car, they saw the Black 2007 Cadillac Escalate.

they found the body of 40-year-old Shannon Hurcutt.

At first, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Shannon had died in a car accident.

It seemed like a tragic fatality, but nothing more than that.

But a few days later, Shannon Hurcut's manner of death was changed to homicide. Local authorities said someone had beaten her to death,
