My name is Samira Shackle. I'm a freelance journalist and the writer of the piece,

The Real Story Behind the Fake Islamic Plot to take over schools. This article came out in 2017,

so it was a few years after the events that it describes. The Trojan Horse scandal actually

kicked off really in 2014 and I'd written a bit about it at the time. One of the key people

who'd been involved, Razwan for us, reached out to me and got in touch. He was a teacher who'd

been implicated and had lost his job and it was a little bit after that I decided that I would

look into the story further and decided I would try to speak to the people who'd been

implicated and lost their jobs and been directly affected long after the media circus had moved on.

It had been this huge media event. It was talked about as this radical plot,

sort of Islamist takeover of Britain's schools and very sensationalist terms.

And when you sort of dug into it, it was very difficult to see the evidence for that prevailing

narrative. And yet, despite that, the method kind of taken root that this was an Islamist plot and

that there's no smoke without fire and so on. And I was really interested in just sort of marrying

up the ground reality with the wilder allegations that had become so prevalent across the British
