Hi, my name is Megan Bealey and I'm the author of the shocking rape trial that galvanized

spain feminists and the far right. I've been following the case for a while, I'd written

few pieces for other publications and I knew it had attracted the same media attention in Spain,

as, say, the Harvey Weinstein cases in the US, and carried the same weight.

But the more I talk to women in Spain, to lawyers, law and history professors,

the more it struck me that this case marked a before and after in Spain,

it seemed to be the thing that made feminism go mainstream,

with young women who had previously not really thought about it now declaring themselves to be

feminists and rallying in the streets. I think they could really see themselves in this case.

About an 18-year-old woman who'd simply wanted to have a night out, drink and dance un-inhibited,

but who ended up trapped in a vestibule having non-consensual sex.
