went on the Run, which was first published almost exactly three years ago in 2021. In early 2021 I was living in a small village in the

south of France in the de Partamon called the Gare, a kind of rural de

Partamon and I began to hear from friends of mine about this elephant that had been stranded in the next village.

It was lockdown when I first heard about it, but as soon as the lockdown restrictions eased in early February of that year

I went to meet Dumba and her family in quote marks the Kludsky's with whom she toured Europe at that time, or before the pandemic anyway.

And I learned the reasons that they'd left their home in Spain, the quiet time that they'd

spent in that part of France until they'd been discovered by animal activists,

the public exposure that they'd had since then, and how unhappy they were about it.

And a few weeks after that visit,

they vanished again and nobody knew where they'd gone.

They remained hidden for over a month,

which, if you think about traveling in crowded Europe with a three and a half

ton elephant is quite a feat and so it was a it was a mystery that had to be sold a kind of
