Washington State was off to a big start.

Had USC coming in on a Friday night on ESPN.

Ryan McGee is a senior writer who covers college football for ESPN.

I flew out on Monday morning from North Carolina to Pullman, which is not an easy trip.

Spokane and driving through the lovely Palouse where I'd never been before.

And I have been promised 15 minutes with Mike Leach, and that included TV and whatever I needed

for ESPN.com.

And I wore a tie.

I shamelessly wore a tie that was like an ocean fairer's map of the coast of North Carolina.
