Have you ever been accused of either?

We use the two words interchangeably, but they're quite different.

A positive dictionary definition of pride is a feeling that you respect yourself and

deserve respect.

But then there's also a feeling that you are more important or better than other people

because of your accomplishments.

If we allow accomplishments to define who we are, we set ourselves up for this misery.

Suffering is generated when we cling too tightly to things and people that will eventually

pass along.

So maybe a better word is dignity.

The dignity and the truth that we are chosen and matter greatly to God, the planet maker.

That is both humbling and dignifying.

So the theme of this meditation from 1 Peter 2 is dignity, divine dignity, affirming our

dignity in Christ and allowing others their dignity.

When we do that, we become more available to honor God and connect with others as equals.
