Summary

We aren’t taking anything from our old nature into our new covenant relationship with Christ. God’s goodness and mercy completely redeems our past. Now we can be “present-future” focused in all our dealings, living fully in the present moment while eagerly anticipating what God has in store for the future. In every difficult situation we face, He simply compels us to see, think, and speak differently we learn to walk with Him in newness of life.

Key Scriptures:

+ 2 Corinthians 5:14-21. […] namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation…

+ Colossians 3:9-10. Do not lie to one another, since you stripped off the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self, which is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created it

+ Ephesians 4:20-24. […] and that you are to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Hey, how many times have you found yourself

0:15.0

dealing with the same situation over and over

0:18.0

with the same negative result?

0:21.0

Well, it happens to me too. And often, it's an indicator that I'm viewing life

0:26.6

through the lens of my past experiences. For some of us, if the past has been

difficult, it can cause a chronic powerlessness in our thinking.

0:37.0

Or if we've had a successful history, we might have a sense of security based in our accomplishments rather than in our relationship

0:44.9

with God. The antidote to breaking this cycle is having what we like to call a

0:51.0

present future outlook. It's being able to experience life

0:55.4

through the lens of who were becoming in God's eyes. So if you've been trapped

1:01.0

in the past there is good news.

1:05.0

The cross of Christ is what completely shuts that door and cuts off every tie to the old.

1:11.7

When the past has finally been settled in our hearts, that's when we discover who

1:16.3

we're becoming and where we're headed with God. Now let's hand it over to Graham Cook as he empowers us to live as new creations and to see ourselves the way Jesus does. It's really important for us that we come into a place of being settled about who we are in Christ and who we are not.

1:46.5

What God is doing with us and what he is resolutely not dealing with us about. So let me start by reading you a scripture from the Bible.

2:01.9

This is 2 Corinthians 5 beginning at 14.

2:08.0

For the love of Christ constrains us,

2:14.0

having concluded this that one died for all,

2:18.0

therefore all died.

2:21.0

And he died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves
