one local resident's take on the way the Grenfell Fire has changed

his neighbourhood.

How the latest government drugs initiative is seen by those at the sharp end working with

addicts. We'll hear about the right of passage

evoked by the imminent closure of a West Midlands stadium and the special

place of Blue Peter presenters in the nation's hearts.

First, this month saw the final report by the inquiry into child abuse in the care system

on Jersey. It detailed multiple failings over many years, notably at the

notorious one-time children's home called Odila-Garen on the island's east coast. It has long since become a very different

place, but the inquiry nevertheless called for its buildings to be demolished.

Christine Finn grew up on Jersey and has happy memories of her own childhood there.

But on a recent visit, she found herself staying at Odila Garen.

I was heaving

heaving with a friend's summer wedding. The island was heaving with tourists. A number of

modest seaside B&Bs, the type familiar to me from growing up in my parents guest house in St Helia

had closed. Of those left, most were full. Others had been turned into boutique

hotels for Jersey's new surfer crowd attracted by some of Europe's most beautiful beaches.

But there was another option for a brief stay if I was prepared to confront the past. a room in a building I didn't recall as a child, but which was now hauntingly familiar from the news.
