Did you recognise that sound?

Of course, it's the gardener's best friend, the robin.

A few sites are more iconic in the garden than a red-breasted robin,

cheerfully hopping at your feet on the lookout for worms.

Males and females look almost identical,

both wearing the signature fiery orange chest while they're young

sporting much more muted, speckled golden brown coat. I got to see this first hand this year

because I tamed a robin that lived in my garden. It was wonderful because the robins, when they're

feeding their young, they become really, really brave, they throw all caution out the window.

And if you've got mealworms suddenly, you're their best friend. And we had this Robin. It came and sat on my partner's head when I put a

mealworm on my partner's head. It came and ate out of my hand as well. And then the last time we

saw it, it came with its baby. It's lovely because Robbins, when the babies fledge, they get looked after for a day or two, and then they're on their own.

And so that was the very last time the Robin came to visit us on our patio table.

It bought this lovely sort of, yeah, a speckily golden brown baby that looked almost like a completely different species, but it was really lovely to see.
