Summary

In part 3 of our Nansen series, our Norwegian explorer begins an audacious plan to reach the North Pole. He proposes to take a ship into the polar ice - and get frozen in. From there, the drift of the ice pack will take him close enough to the pole to make a run at history. 1:18.0	Today is part three in our series on Norwegian Explorer for Yuf Nansen.
1:22.0	Last time we got Nansen home from a successful crossing of Greenland
1:26.0	making him the first person to ever accomplish that momentous task.
1:30.0	Nansen was now famous, the toast of Europe.
1:32.0	He had a new position at Christiana University as the curator of the Zoological Collection,
1:37.0	but there were no real responsibilities associated with it.
1:40.0	He got a nice paycheck, the university got his name.
1:43.0	It would give the 27-year-old Nansen a bit of financial security, but it's not like he was rich.
1:48.0	So it was the summer of 1889.
1:50.0	Nansen would head off to do some lectures about his Greenland crossing in Edinburgh on London,
1:55.0	meeting with the Prince of Wales, aka Future King Edward VII,
1:59.0	and members of the Royal Geographical Society.
