0:07.8	I'm Albert Moller, and this is The Briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from

0:14.0	You know, one of the most interesting stories out there these days is the fact that there
0:17.7	are a good number of people in Eastern Oregon who want to become a part of greater Idaho.
0:22.5	That's actually a formal proposal so much so that it's coming before the voters in
0:26.7	one county in Oregon.
0:28.8	The bottom line is this, if you take all of that expanse of Eastern Oregon, it includes
0:34.4	only about 10% of the population of Oregon, even though it contains the vast majority of
0:40.2	the space.
0:41.6	And that space is largely rural and rural equals conservative.
0:44.6	Meanwhile, the Western coast of Oregon, 90% of the people and wow, not conservative.
0:51.4	And so conservatives in Eastern Oregon, I'm in looking across the border at Idaho, a
0:55.8	very red state, and they've been seeing what they see as an opportunity.
0:59.7	And that opportunity is to enlarge Idaho, reduce Oregon, out of the conservative Eastern
1:05.2	area of Oregon, added to Idaho, create a new state known as greater Idaho.
1:11.7	And in terms of land, it would be a lot greater.
1:15.1	Of course, many people in Eastern Oregon, very conservative, they look over at red state
1:21.7	Idaho, and they wonder why it could be that they can basically look into Idaho and see
1:27.4	a far more conservative government conservative governor.
1:30.4	If you take Oregon on issues of gun laws compared to Idaho, it's like there are two different
1:33.9	countries.
