As there's simply no way you haven't heard by now, we have a new pope, and he is an American.

Cardinal Robert Francis Provost, who will go by Pope Leo the 14, is a native of Southside

Chicago and an alum of Villanova University, before he served as a bishop in Peru for two decades.

He is definitely more on the liberal side as far as popes go, though less progressive on LGBTQ issues than Pope Francis was.

As a member of the Augustinian Order, his work in Peru underscores his commitment to serving the poorest communities,

a message which he emphasized in his first speech after he was elected, given in Spanish and Italian, not English, notably.
