Hey guys, welcome back. We are in Matthew 22 today, and we are handling these situations where Jesus is being challenged and opposed by various groups in Jerusalem on the last week of

his public ministry.

And each conversation, we see more and more the incredible depth of Jesus' insight,

the way that he handles people, the way that he shuts down his critics.

And we're going to see another group today, the Pharisees, in verse 34, where it says

the Pharisees had, when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence,

they were gathered together. So almost as if, well, Sadducees, you couldn't get him, but we will.

And so look at verse 35. And this introduces a very

familiar passage. And it's important that we understand the context. So verse 35, then one of them.

So remember, this is kind of an attack by the Pharisees, and they have their star witness, their star

questioner that takes the lead here. And watch what he asks in verse 35. One of them, which was a lawyer,

asked him a question, tempting him. So they have, again, an insidious, nefarious motive here. And here was the question,

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Now, why would that be an insidious question?
