It's seeming less likely that Uncle Sam's checks will bounce anytime soon.

Wednesday night, the house voted 314 to 117 to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which

would raise the debt ceiling into 2025.

It received support from the middle out, winning over 149 Republicans and 165 Democrats,

while earning nay votes from both most conservative and the most progressive representatives.

In addition to raising the roof, the bill would, one, keep non-defense spending flat in 2024

and up 1% in 2025, two expand some work requirements for federal aid programs, three, rescind

27 billion dollars in unspent COVID aid, and four, reinstate student debt payments on

August 30th.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where majority leader Schumer and minority leader McConnell

have both said they want to pass it without delay, ahead of the Treasury Department's

Monday deadline.
