0:13.7	About 4.3 million Americans watch the Emmy presentation,
0:18.0	the Emmy Awards, on Monday night.
0:20.2	Now, the thing that's significant there
0:21.9	is that 4.3 million as an audience is the lowest in the entire history the televised Emmy awards.
0:27.5	Something's going on here. Just a matter of say 2022 saw 5.9 million viewers. We're now down to 4.3, and 5.9 was the low before 4.3.
0:39.0	And so you even have the New York Times talking not only about a new low in terms of the
0:43.7	viewership for the Emmy Awards but also they suggest that the low
0:48.4	viewership and other patterns actually point to the end of what the New York Times called Peak TV.
0:55.1	Now this I think is very important for our culture and I think Christians ought to pay attention
0:58.5	to this because we understand that entertainment is a massive component of the culture.
1:04.6	And we also understand that those who control the entertainment also have a great deal to do with controlling
1:09.0	the future of the culture.
1:10.7	What we laugh at, what we cry about, the stories that unify us, the material that goes into
1:16.7	our brains by means of entertainment media, we know that this has a lot to do with the world
1:22.1	view held by those who are around us. We understand that this has a lot to do with the worldview held by those who are around us.
1:23.9	We understand that we are ourselves insofar as we consume these products, not immune.
1:28.6	But we also know that there are big shifts in how America consumes entertainment now and the entertainment America
1:35.7	consumes as compared to say just a few decades ago. To make that point I want to turn
1:40.4	to an obituary that appeared just in recent days in the New York Times.
