0:00.0	It's Friday, February 14, 2025. I'm Albert Moller, and this is the briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview.
0:14.4	Well, several days ago, you may remember that a big game was held known as the Super Bowl. And it is one of the major fixations of American
0:22.6	popular culture. It has become a major economic engine, not only when it comes to professional
0:28.1	sports, but when it comes to the culture at large. Perhaps you might want to know that it is the
0:34.3	day in the United States. Indeed, we are told in North America when the largest number of avocados are consumed.
0:42.4	And they're consumed, of course, mostly as dip. And it turns out that Americans have a ravenous appetite for avocados, mostly on one weekend.
0:52.2	But, you know, let's be honest, avocados aren't a major worldview issue,
0:55.2	so that's not why we're talking about the Super Bowl today. I want to go back before we end
1:00.4	the entire week and think about some of the worldview issues that were involved. Now, obviously,
1:05.1	you could talk about sport, you could talk about human excellence, you could talk about human
1:08.8	striving, you could talk about the training and the preparation, you could talk about the strategy, you could talk about the excellence. You could talk about human striving. You could talk about the training and the
1:11.2	preparation. You could talk about the strategy. You could talk about the rules. You know, it's very
1:16.1	interesting. It's a rules-based universe. The rules may be controversial. The rulings may be
1:23.3	controversial, but the fact is, people actually do believe in absolute truth when it comes to the
1:29.1	measurement of whether or not a first down was earned. It turns out to be objective truth.
1:36.1	That objective truth was looking pretty bad for the Kansas City Chiefs for a lot of the night,
1:40.5	and it didn't end the way they expected. And the Philadelphia Eagles added another Super Bowl
1:45.2	trophy to their cabinet. But the reality is I'm not mostly interested in this as a game. I'm not
1:50.8	mostly interested in it, even as football. I am interested in it for what it says about the culture.
1:55.8	So one of the things it tells us is that the attraction of a spectacle is a deeply human thing.
2:03.6	A spectacle draws a crowd.
2:06.2	And indeed, there have been people pretty sophisticated cultural theorists in the 19th and 20th centuries
