It's Friday, July 19th.

It was a nightmare of a day for workers at Microsoft and for businesses, airlines and hospitals worldwide due to a global technology outage.

But officials say it has not critically affected emergency and public safety systems in Washington State.

Robert Ezel is with the State Emergency Management Department.

He says the outage is a good reminder for institutions to be prepared for tech problems.

We need these things to be able to sustain life and our business practices, how we live our lives,

and that we need to be prepared for when there are interruptions.

The outage was triggered by a faulty software update by CrowdStrike to computers running Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft says the problem has since been fixed.

It's affected Seattle Children's Hospital, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Providence, Swedish, just to name a few.
