| 0:00.0 | It's Friday, December 6, 2024. I'm Albert Mowler, and this is The Briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian worldview. |
| 0:13.5 | Well, we've had almost a week to think about the pardon. We can simply say the pardon because it's the only pardon right now that matters. |
| 0:21.6 | It is the pardon extended by President Joe Biden to his son, Hunter Biden. |
| 0:26.1 | And even as we talked about this a few days ago, subsequent developments and a thoughtful and reflective |
| 0:32.2 | return to the basic questions cause us to, at the end of the week, want to come back and say, |
| 0:36.3 | you know, there's really |
| 0:37.7 | something here we need to look at. There's really something here we need to consider. And for one thing, |
| 0:43.1 | we know things we didn't know about the context. We know things we didn't know about the pardon, |
| 0:48.0 | even as it was issued as the president was headed for a foreign policy trip to Africa. And so what we now know is that even as the |
| 0:56.2 | president had said repeatedly that he would not do this, he is now saying he did this because |
| 1:01.3 | of what he alleges was the selective prosecution of his son. And this comes after month after month |
| 1:09.1 | after month of the president and his spokespersons in the White House saying on the record that he would not do this. |
| 1:14.7 | So he has done what he said he would not do. |
| 1:17.7 | And here's what we need to recognize that if you take the president at his own words, even when he says why he did it, nothing has changed from when he said he would not until he says now |
| 1:28.7 | that he will pardon his son, which just underlines the fact that nothing has changed in the |
| 1:34.2 | larger situation. What has changed is, if not what the president intended to do, at least what |
| 1:39.7 | he has said he has intended to do. He said one thing, he has done the opposite thing. But I want to |
| 1:46.1 | turn now to an aspect of this that I don't think is receiving adequate attention. And I guess |
| 1:51.3 | we shouldn't count on this attention in the larger secular world. But I think as Christians, |
| 1:56.3 | we just need to stop for a moment and just ask what in the world's going on here. Because we |
| 2:00.6 | are talking |
| 2:01.1 | about two human beings when we talk about the president of the United States, Joe Biden and his son |
... |
