I'm your host, Sammy Sage, and the morning announcements is your daily five-minute breakdown of the headlines that isn't a megaphone for the loudest voices, but a magnifying glass for the most important news.

Yesterday, Israel's military launched a major air assault on parts of Yemen, which are under

the control of Houthi militants, following a week of ballistic missile and drone attacks

from the latter against Israel.

The attack targeted an airport and multiple power stations.

Meanwhile, President Biden denounced Russia's wide-ranging

attacks against Ukraine on Christmas Day and vowed to continue a surge of weapons and air

defense missile deliveries. The Russian attacks were intended to strike critical energy

infrastructure to cut off Ukrainians' access to heat in winter.

Numerous universities in the United States are advising their international students to return

early from winter break prior to president-elect Donald Trump's inauguration in case he institutes

something like the travel ban that he did at the start of his first term.

There are over a million international students enrolled on U.S. campuses, and it's unclear

what policies Trump will implement that could impact student visas and travel. I'm sure we'll

see soon enough. New York Governor Kathy Hochel signed legislation yesterday called the Climate

Change Superfund Act, which will require companies that

are large fossil fuel polluters to help pay for damage caused by extreme weather events.

The company is responsible for the bulk of emissions buildup between 2000 and 2020-24, will

each pay approximately $3 billion per year for 25 years.

More carbon emissions, more problems.
