But behind the scenes, terrible things were happening.

Live from ABC News headquarters in New York City, this is Good Morning America.

We begin with that flood emergency in the

Northwest. Up to 100,000 people could be forced from their homes as rivers rise to historic levels.

Trevor Alte is on the scene in Washington State. Good morning, Trevor.

Good morning, Rebecca. And look at the Snohomish River here. So this is raging well beyond its bank.

It's swamped this walkway here.

This has climbed over 33-foot levees yesterday morning.

It broke its record high water level, and it still hasn't started to recede.

And officials all over the state of Washington have had to perform dozens of rescues. This morning, 100,000

residents under evacuation warnings in Washington because of catastrophic flooding. More than a foot of

rain bringing multiple rivers to historic levels. This is unlike anything we've seen in a long,

long time. I think it's surpassed every flooding record we've had.

Neighborhoods inundated with several feet of water, residents racing the sandbag areas to save their properties. We're barely keeping up with it. Eastside Fire and Rescue crew saving two

drivers using a Navy chopper, one of them clinging onto a tree. Sixty-year-old William Elliott was rescued by fire officials after he had to evacuate his

flooded home.
