We do begin here with the chaos at one of the nation's busiest airports during the Labor Day travel exodus, a temporary ground stop at Newark

Airport because of a new round of air traffic controller communication issues. Morgan Norwood is at Newark

Airport with the latest. Morgan, good morning. Good morning to you, Wend, and we're seeing steady streams of passengers here at Newark

for one of the busiest travel days of the year. And looming over it all, questions about

a critical security or system failure that already caused frustrating delays.

This morning, the FAA working to find out what caused air traffic control radios to fail in America's busiest airspace.

The outage triggering a ground stop and a wave of delays at Newark amid the busiest Labor Day travel period in 15 years.

We've just been having really bad frequency issues and frequency failures. On the radios,

controllers and pilots struggling to hear each other. For Delta 1818, is it a com or the ILS frequencies

that are unreliable? It's a, you know, same old, same old here. Frequency are no good. There's parts

missing. There's, I don't know. They come and go. The problem traced to a Philadelphia air traffic center that also directs flights in and out of Newark,

a facility plagued by staffing shortages and equipment failures for more than a year.

The FAA, in turn, spreading arrivals farther apart, trimming flights into Newark by nearly 20%.
