Summary

Long before “Making A Murderer” became a nationwide obsession, media led campaigns to free convicted killers like Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu Jamal & the West Memphis Three. Americans can’t seem to resist the intoxicating allure of a “wrongful conviction” story. In this episode Roberta examines why freeing convicted murderers for fun, ideology and profit has rivaled baseball as American defense attorneys’ favorite pastime.

and why I'm so disappointed with the first three episodes of convicting a murderer and the narrative that they are laying forth.

2:39.9

And one of the biggest problems when, one of the biggest questions I get is why would anyone want to release a convicted killer?

2:52.7

What is, what is, what is their motivation?

2:56.6

And why is there so little skepticism?

3:01.4

Well, I think for one, their motivation is there's two different motivations that I see.

3:12.2

And this is obviously my opinion, is an ideology motivation, which is the idea that our justice system is systematically at its makeup, in its design, so unfair, so racist, and unfair that we need a kind of

3:36.6

movement to be a watchdog and and police it.

3:43.5

So, and it's not just about the justice system.

3:50.1

So it is no coincidence that making a murderer puts the police as the villains.

3:57.4

And you'll see that time and time again in true

4:00.7

crime documentaries the police are don't really care about the truth they just have to they have

tunnel vision right they just want to close the case They're under such pressure to close the case.

4:17.9

And the prosecutor is in such, so the motivation there, right, and the motivation the prosecutor is also seen as a villain because he is, he or she is the person that moves this system forward
