Back in 2020, we aired two episodes on the Freedom of the Press.

This is part two.

And specifically, this episode looks into what press freedom looked like in 2020 and

how it got there.

Now at that time, the reporters without borders world press freedom index had recently

raided the United States at 45 out of 180 countries.

That put us behind most other, quote, unquote, western nations.

This was during a period when mistrust, assaults, and arrests of journalists were on the rise

in the United States.

As of 2022, the US sits at 42 on that same index.

We've moved up, but only three spaces.

The overall analysis of reporters without borders is that despite attempts of the current

president, Joe Biden, to re-institute trust and respect of the press, deep national polarization,

the loss of local news outlets, and the loss of integrity that comes with social media

and digital platforms has eroded the state of media in this country.

So this episode is a reminder of what was going on in 2020.
