And yet, it's all too easy for us to slip back into thinking that we can somehow secure

our standing before God by our efforts and our works.

that this chapter of scripture will come alive in this room and live among hearts in

this room, transforming hearts, lives, and maybe transforming many of our understanding

of Christianity.

So I want us to pray together before we dive in.

God, we praise you for the breathtaking awe-inspiring, shocking, startling

truth that you became a man, and at the name of Jesus is Emmanuel, which means God

with us, that you are not a far off-distant God separated from us, but you have dwelled

among us, all glory be to your name.
