Leonard Skinnered, guitarist, Alan Collins, and Kathy Johns would be married and have two girls together.

Those words, the opening lines to Freebird, were once said directly by Kathy to Alan.

They obviously stuck and ended up resonating for so many.

Freebird is a song about, well, freedom, and this message can be translated, accepted,

twisted, whichever way it needs to be to serve the listener. That's one of the beautiful

things about music. But when you

know that Kathy passed tragically at age 27 due to complications of a miscarriage, and that Alan, tall, lanky,

haunted Alan Collins, the young man with a long hair over his face as he shreds that infamous

solo midway through Freebird, Alan, have been through this episode's event, along with the death of his young wife,

later a drunk driving accident where his passenger and girlfriend at that time dies.

Alan himself left paralyzed from the waist down, passing at age 37 from pneumonia in 1990.

When you know stories like this that surround that

song, this band, it pales the whole complexion of the song Freebird, or perhaps it flushes

it, or maybe the complexion is just clear, I don't know, man.

The whole thing's pretty far out.
