Hello, I'm Christy Young and this is a download from the Desert Island Discs Archive.

It was archived without the music, so although the Castaways' choices are introduced, they're

Our Castaway this week is the actor Fredy Jones.

How important he was music.

Very important, but like many important things I tend to neglect it.

It's awful really, but I do love it desperately.

My first love of music came from my mother as many things indeed did.

We lived in the pottery, I was born in late 20s and lived through part of the depression.

But my mother was all zippiness.

She was a pianist to the old silent movies and later in pubs, indeed at 80s, now I

still plays occasionally in the pub, but I think it's marvellous.

But it was she, she plays a piano like most people play rugger, I should say, but I think

she got a grudge against it.

Nonetheless, over the decade she's given a lot of people a lot of pleasure and she

introduced me to music.

She used to play, as I recall, the Rachmaninoff, Prelude in Seachot Manor, Hungarian Rhapsody
