Today our guest is Frank Leiford, whom you may have seen on the HBO documentary series

Heavensgate, the cult of cults, because Frank was a member of Heavensgate for 18 years.

That's right, Heavensgate, the UFO religious cult most famous for its mass-ritual suicide

in the 90s, which its participants believed was going to result in them being taken up

into a spacecraft that was trailing the comet Hellbop.

This is one of the most famous cults in the world, often reduced to jokes about the

nighties that they wore in the suicide, and today we get an inside look into what it

was really like in this cult.

There was so much to get into with him that this is a two-parter, so in part one today

he's going to tell us what his life was like in the very beginning of joining the cult.

He'll talk about how he came to follow the leaders T and Doe with his girlfriend, Erica,

what it was like wandering the country, living a nomadic lifestyle with his assigned check

partner, and what happened when they finally settled down in one place for what they called

class.

The documentary on HBO is so good, I cannot believe we got him, I'm so excited, he's

going to tell us how things began to get more and more strict and controlling down to

the size of their pancakes, how it felt to be separated from the love of his life, and

how things began to get much darker when one of their leaders, T, got cancer, leaving

martial apple white, aka Doe, as the only leader of the group.
