old history lesson is purely coincidental. Hello and welcome back to the show. Today we're going to

wrap up our coverage of Francis Perkins. And I have to say it's best if you go back to part 1

and then part 2 to catch up with her story. But as it's been a couple of weeks since part 2,

let's really quickly remind you of where we left off with Francis Perkins. The Great Depression

has begun and our statistician, researcher, Burenyac and no nonsense having Francis Perkins

has publicly gone to the mattresses with the Hoover administration. Who were attempting some

optimistic messaging? Prosperity is round the corner to which our Miss Perkins retorted,

where did you get that information from? Because what I've seen here is quite different and I have

the numbers to prove it. So embarrassed and enraged was President Hoover that years and years later

when they happened to be on the same platform at an event. He took pains not to look at her,

shake her hand or otherwise acknowledge her existence in any way. And he was not a really

enemy. She was making life difficult for the cutters of corners and the corrupt in the world. And

she was forced to deal with things like stalkers, a horrible barrage of poison pen letters and at

least one assassination attempt. A man came into her offices looking for Francis and he had a knife.

He asked her secretary, where is she? And the secretary was like, she's not here. So the man grabbed

the closest person he could and stabbed that person at just about this time. Francis is coming out

of the ladies room and sees what's going on helps diffuse the situation. Call the police. Get the

police involved. Get the man taken away. The guy that he had attacked was ultimately fine.
