French President Emmanuel Macron says France will recognize a Palestinian state in September.

France is the first member nation of the UN Security Council and the G7 nations to do so,

and took many by surprise.

Although Macron had signalled France's recognition back in May. What we are building over the coming weeks is obviously a political response to the crisis.

And yes, it's a necessity.

Because today, over and above the current humanitarian tragedy, it is the very possibility of a Palestinian state that is being questioned.

It comes as the UK is set to hold an emergency call with France and Germany today,

as British Prime Minister Kirstama says the crisis in Gaza has reached, quote, new depths.

All 2.1 million people in Gaza are now facing starvation.

And on Tuesday, Gaza's health ministry said 900,000 children are going hungry, and 70,000

are already showing signs of malnutrition.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is removing its negotiating team from Doha, where talks on a ceasefire

have been taking place.
