I'm Safia Ahmed and here's the news that you need to start your day. President Emmanuel Macron has named Michel Barnier as the next Prime Minister of France.

Macron is hoping that this will end a stalemate that started after elections two months ago.

It was all part of a risky gamble by the president,

where his centrist coalition ended up losing seats,

and no other faction on the right or the left

won a majority. Barnier is a center-right politician, and he's well known in Europe.
