Let's dive into everything baseball related from Saturday, August 31st, starting off as always

with the transactions, injuries, news and notes from around the league.

We'll start it off with the bad news as starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw was placed on the 15-day

IL with a bone spur in his left big toe.

He's been dealing with the issue on and off for years, but it was enough to force him to exit

his last start early and to be placed on the IL.

Kershaw will likely have his return synced up with the Dodgers' projected postseason schedule,

but he's likely due for a minimum stay, as this is something he's been dealing with for a long time.

In terms of transactions, outfielder Tommy Fam was claimed off waivers by the Royals.

Fam was designated for assignment yesterday by the Cardinals after underperforming

following his acquisition from the White Sox at the trade deadline,

and Fam will head back to the AL Central to play every day in the

corner outfield where he'll provide veteran postseason experience to a young and

inexperienced club headed for the playoffs.

And in terms of news, first baseman Kyle Manzardo is expected to be recalled from the
