Summary

The trickiest position to fill at the start of this FPL season could very well be the forwards, mostly due to the large pool of very qualified candidates. So, before a ball is kicked, what's the best way for us to determine which strikers have the best potential? This week, Josh and Brandon break all of the options into three categories, based on price, and then compare the data and statistics for each player against various intangible qualities. Will we go big with the premium-priced Harry Kane? Or is it more appealing to field three forwards in the lower price brackets? Regardless of the approach, we have some serious decisions to make. Hey, L. Cheaters. Welcome to the always cheating podcast. My name is Josh. I'm here with Brandon. Brandon, how are you?

0:22.2

I'm great, Josh, less than two weeks. So on this episode, right, we've talked about it. We're going to try to be forward thinking. We're going to really attack our planning for Game Week 1. You picking up what I'm putting down here, Josh? I predict we're going to get into a little bit of trouble with this episode because this

0:40.5

week on Always Cheating, we have an episode dedicated to FPL forwards.

0:46.2

The response that we're going to get, Josh, is great, when's the episode on midfielders coming?

0:50.5

When's the episode on Defenders coming?

0:52.9

And it's not.

0:58.5

Because, A, we're like going to run out of time here before Game Week 1 kicks in. But B, Josh, we've done a lot of content already for the

1:04.8

preseason. And I feel like doing our team previews, all 20 clubs, I was able to formulate a really clear sense of where I wanted

1:13.7

to go with my defense, where I wanted to go with my midfielders, and where I kind of kept running

1:18.7

into roadblocks, mostly because there are too many options, was with my FPL team's forward

1:24.0

lineup. So talk to me about what we're going to do on today's episode of Always Cheating. Yeah. What we're basically going to do is, and I'm with you, I feel like there are 15 or 20 forward prospects, players who I think can actually score 15 plus goals this season, right? Which even at the lower tiers, I think some of those players exist. Of course, they all won't. But there are a lot of players here. Maybe you have an idea of what you want to do in Game Week 1. Maybe. And I think even with this pot, I think we may hopefully change your opinion a little bit on some of these players. But once you start looking a little further ahead, Game Week 4 or 5, things start to change quite a lot. So we're going to talk about here are A, what are the fixtures

2:01.8

look like for the key fours? We're going to talk about 15 or 20 different players in this

2:05.0

pod. What are their key fixtures look like? What are their stats? Like just stats and data,

2:10.8

like how did they actually, how did they perform last season? If they came from the championship

2:14.7

or outside of the Premier League, what are their numbers look like? What are the underlying stats look like for these players? And then C is the intangibles. So, which basically just means how do we think of, like, how do we feel about them? Do we like them or not? And so we're going to talk about those three things. And we're going to break it up into budget forwards, mid-price forwards, and premium forwards, the most expensive ones. And so I think it'll be a really interesting discussion. I'm looking forward to it. It was really fun to put all the data together for this. And I've actually changed my opinions on a couple of people. And Antonio, I'm looking at you, Brandon. Okay. Or Antonio is going to get a little bit of the little stick on this week's pod.

2:54.9

So, you know, there's a couple pieces of news.

2:57.3

One thing I wanted to just very quickly note is you've really got to pay attention right now to what's happening with some of these players returning from Euros and the Cup of America as well.

3:06.9

And even players like with Charleston or at the Olympics, A lot of them are coming back very slowly or have not even returned to their team yet. You know, Kane is just going back to Spurs this week. We'll see if he stays at Spurs or not. So I really recommend either following these teams on Instagram or Twitter or whatever because they post all this stuff. There's a lot of fanfare when the players return. So you do not want to be in a position where three of your starters in Game Week 1 just aren't even like you got back from Europe four days for the season starter. Because in that case, they're probably not going to actually start game week one. They may not even play a minute in Game Week 1. So keep an eye on that. And then Brendan, I just had a question for you. The grealish to man city move. It looks like it's, it's probably a done deal, probably going to happen. Are you, you know, are you, I mean, the transfer itself, it seems like a good piece of business, but from a fantasy perspective, good deal. Like, are you know, are you thinking about bringing them in? Is it just, you know, like, is it just like, how do you think he fits into that team?

3:59.3

Right.

3:59.5

There are two ways to look at it.

4:01.0

There's the pessimistic point of view and the optimistic one.

4:04.6

I'm trying, Josh, to take the optimistic path here that yes, Grealish, like one of his great assets as a player is his ability to create and to carry the ball into
