a legal earthquake for Fox News. Fox News folded. Rupert Murdoch will pay more than $787 million

to settle a defamation case over lies and conspiracy theories. The settlement coming as opening

statements were about to start in court today. Dominion stating Fox admitted to telling lies,

and it comes after two years, a mountain of smoking gun evidence emerging,

showing what hosts really thought about election lives off camera against what they were put on

the air. Rupert Murdoch under oath and meeting some hosts endorsed the lies from Trump's team.

Here's Dominion's lawyer right after the deal was struck.

The truth matters. Lies have consequences. Over two years ago, a torrent of lies swept Dominion

and election officials across America into an alternative universe of conspiracy theories

causing grievous harm to Dominion and the country. Today's settlement of $787 million,

$500,000 represents vindication and accountability.

Vindication and accountability. Fox News released in a statement saying,

quote, we acknowledge the court's rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.

This settlement reflects Fox's continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards.

Here's the thing. $787 million? That tells the story. With this historic settlement Murdoch and

those hosts avoid the witness stand and the headlines. The New York Times reporting, quote,

well, the settlement avoids a lengthy trial. It still results in a rare instance of accountability

for attempts to delegitimize President Biden's victory. Noting quote, few people or organizations

have faced legal ramifications for claims related to electoral fraud that were brought by Trump
