Summary

A study out earlier his week from Johns Hopkins University showed that mandated lockdowns put in place during the first wave of COVID-19 did little to nothing to prevent deaths. According to its analysis, while the lockdowns had a significant negative impact on America's economy, education system, and mental health, they only reduced the coronavirus mortality rate by 0.2%. Does that mean mandated lockdowns caused more harm than good? Professor of Surgery and Health Policy at Johns Hopkins and Fox News Medical Contributor, Dr. Marty Makary joined host Lisa Brady to put some perspective on the study. They discussed whether the COVID-19 lockdown orders had a substantial impact on curbing rising infections and hospitalizations in the U.S. and what lessons we have learned to prepare us for the next pandemic. Dr. Makary explained why there should be a better strategy on COVID-19 boosters and more focus on providing access to those with comorbidities. He also weighed in on whether or not kids under five years old should get the vaccine. Due to time limitations, we could not include all of the interview in our original segment. On the FOX News Rundown Extra, you will hear our entire conversation with Dr. Marty Makary and hear more of his take on America's response to the COVID pandemic and what we got right and wrong.
