Summary

In his new documentary series “Country Music,” filmmaker Ken Burns explores the history and culture of the genre that is beloved by so many people across the U.S.. While its songs top the pop charts now, the 16-hour film uses rare footage and some of American music’s biggest stars to detail how country began and has evolved over the centuries. Earlier this week, Ken Burns joined Fox News Rundown host Lisa Brady to discusses his inspiration for the film and why he thinks this genre of music is something that can help unite our divided nation. The segment included the documentarian sharing incredible stories about American icons Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. The creator behind such classic docuseries “The Civil War” and “Baseball” even opened about how the death of his mother inspired him to make movies. There were so many incredible anecdotes, we couldn’t fit them all in. On The Fox News Rundown Extra this week, you’ll hear our full interview with Ken Burns and more of the historian’s insightful and sometimes heart melting stories about country stars like Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. In the extended version, learn why Dwight Yoakem broke down crying while filming an interview about Merle Haggard. And Burns also reveals some of the faces he’d put on his “Mt. Rushmore of country music.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
