Welcome to this week's foul Friday Tip of the Week, brought to you by H.P. outdoors.

Here's your host Josh Palm and Dan we're back with another foul Friday quick tip of the week.

This week we're going to talk to you about some tips that you can employ when the weather gets cold and the water

locks up. The first part of it is going to be dealing with the water itself.

If you've got it around you need to head to the big water. If your normal

potholes and your flooded

timber areas are locked up, the birds are going to head to those open waters and

you know some of these large reservoirs and lakes provide some of the only

opportunities that they have to find

water and just because cold weather moves in does not mean that all of the birds in

your area are going to migrate out. Some of them certainly will but some of your

other more hardy ducks and geese will stay around for a while as long as they can locate food in

some open water. So these big water spots are still going to be ideal at this

opportunity for your diver ducks and things like that. But obviously you have to keep in mind when you're dealing with big water, there's more risk involved. So make sure that you're going out there with the appropriate boats and things like that. None of them, you know, duck is worth risking, you know, your safety to chase out onto the big water.

If getting out on big water is not an option for you, the other thing you need to be looking for in these events is moving water.

So streams, creeks, rivers that are moving water are going to obviously be your last ones to freeze up.

So it's time to break out the old canoe, start doing some float hunts, and you know as you're

floating down these creeks and these rivers and when you're rounding bends hugged to the

inside keep yourself concealed as long as possible so long as it's legal to do so in

your state you can float these these rivers and get some great shooting opportunity

on a lot of ducks in this manner.
