Here's your host Josh Palm and Dan Herushka. Hey guys, we're back with another foul Friday tip of the week.

This week we're talking about layering.

And what I mean by that is layering underneath your gun. You might have put your gun away

in January or February of last season and this early season in September might be the first

time you're taking it back out since that time. You go to a shoulder to your shotgun on that first group of birds

and it feels completely different. You throw three shells down range and

whiff on all three. Why is that happening and how can you avoid it?

Basically when you're hunting in the late season you got lots of layers on

and it creates a little bit more space between you and the gun and your eye level on the

site. In September you might be hunting with just a t-shirt on or a light outer

layer so you might need to make just a t-shirt on or a light outer layer.

So you might need to make the adjustment on the gun to get your eye properly on plane with the site when you pull up on birds.

One way to really help with this is to purchase a shotgun that gives you a lot of

adjustability. Many guns will have adjustable stocks that you can adjust for

different length of pool and during the later season when you've got lots of layers on you might need to

back off that pad a little bit because you've already got some pad built into the

layers that you're wearing. In the early season when you don't have any layers on

jackets things of that nature you might need

to add that extra pad on there to give you that same length of pull so that when you

shoulder the gun your eyes are immediately on site and you can make a good

clean shot on your birds.
