I'm political scientist Michael Baranowski, an emeritus professor at North Kentucky University.

My guest today is historian and author Arthur Herman. Professor Herman has a

PhD in history from Johns Hopkins University and is the best-selling author of multiple books,

including two of my personal favorites, how the Scots invented the modern world and the cave in the

light, Plato versus Aristotle and the struggle for the soul of Western civilization.

I'm very pleased to have him on the show today to discuss his latest book, Founders Fire,

from 1776 to the age of Trump.

So I thought we'd start with the central concept of the book, Founders Fire.

I mean, you're not just talking about the founding fathers, and you're not just talking about

business entrepreneurs either. So can you explain what exactly found, what is Founders Fire?

And how do you think it explains, what do you think it

explains about America that may be more, I don't know, conventional political or economic

analyses might miss? Well, the reason I call it Founders Fire is, first of all, as you just
