A few years back when I ran a beverage company, we had to launch using those plastic sleeves to put our designs on the cans.

0:08.0

But they looked bad, the sleeves get stretched out, they don't cover the full can, and overall they just look and feel low quality.

Lucky for you, digital can printing technology has come so far over the last few years that now you can launch your beverage brand or new skews with a fully

0:21.7

printed look and it's at similar pricing to those plastic sleeves.

Our friends at CanWorks, which is the largest U.S.-based digital can printer, are happy to work with

Thank you. We started with a small production and sort of hand-selling jars to local retailers here in L.A.,

1:04.3

which there are no shortages of great, four-main marketplaces in Southern California.

1:09.4

And it just sort of took off. I feel like right place,

1:12.1

right time. You know, there hadn't really been a marinera sauce or a pasta sauce in the category

1:17.0

that really introduced something playful and fun and fresh. And it was a very dated and sort

1:21.7

of untouched space for some time. So I think the retailers here in the West Coast and in

1:26.6

Southern California were very

1:27.6

excited to see something new and also local. And going back to my point of like most of the

1:32.7

origins of this category live on the East Coast, didn't really see many brands originating here

1:38.5

in L.A. that could introduce a new story. So I think lucky in the beginning and sort of it just kind of built from there.

1:45.6

And then I said, oh my gosh, like six months in, you know, what is this industry? What is

1:50.1

CPG and what does it mean to grow a food brand? And that's kind of when we were fully in.
