This is a show about my friend Forest Foster, who I've made a couple shows about already.

And if you haven't heard any of those shows before, you might want to listen to at least one of them before you hear this one.

It's six inches longer than a liner for like a bronze casket or

granite casket and you've got it all sawed out yeah yeah sawed and planned it's all

planned on one side and we got a good start on it.

That's Forest Foster and Butch Grieves and Steve Gorlic building Karen's coffin.

Karen Shaw, forests partner of 43 years, died on Memorial Day after a long illness.

That morning, Forrest and Karen and their son Tyke rode tilled her garden and put up the fence.

Karen transplanted some of her starts.

She and Forrest went for a drive in the late afternoon, and after dinner they went outside and watched the fireworks in the valley over

Hardwick. Late that evening, Karen died. The next day, Forrest and Stephen Butch built Karen's

coffin out of Pine Boards Forest had down at his deer camp.

I asked if he wanted me to record and he said that he did.

It wasn't easy and it's taken me a while to listen to this tape and make the show.

But like always with Forrest, I'm struck by the combination of pragmatism and love about everything he does.
